Khaberni - The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported today, Thursday, that the leadership of the Israeli army confirmed that it has not received any instructions from the political leadership to prepare for a ceasefire with Lebanon.
The authority also reported that the Israeli defense establishment is moving to continue ground operations in southern Lebanon in order to disarm Hezbollah from the areas south of the Litani River, with discussions to reduce air raids in areas where the Lebanese army is deployed.
The estimates, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, suggest that the issue of a gradual withdrawal will not be seriously proposed until later, with the advancement of the political track between Israel and Lebanon.
In the same context, "Kan News" channel quoted an Israeli source confirming that "advanced talks are ongoing between Israel and Hezbollah (referring to the Lebanese side) to reach a temporary ceasefire expected to take effect in the coming days".
According to the same source, Israel does not object to a temporary truce at the request of the United States, as long as it retains the right to return to combat if an agreement with Iran is not reached, and as long as it ensures Hezbollah's commitment to the ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement yesterday that negotiations with Lebanon are taking place "because Israel is very strong and countries are turning to it," adding that their goal is "to dismantle Hezbollah and establish a lasting peace based on strength".
In Washington, US President Donald Trump wrote that the leaders of Lebanon and Israel (referring to Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun) will hold talks on Thursday as part of efforts to calm the situation between the two countries, noting that the talks come nearly 34 years after the last meeting between the leaders of Israel and Lebanon.
