Khaberni - The eagerly anticipated 2026 World Cup is witnessing widespread controversy before it starts, following reports of a significant increase in train ticket prices between New York and MetLife Stadium, one of the tournament's prominent venues.
According to the New York Times, the regular ticket price of about $12.90 will soar to over $100 during the World Cup period, a move that has sparked dissatisfaction among fans, especially given expectations of a significant spectator presence.
This substantial increase marks a notable shift in transportation policy associated with major tournaments, particularly when compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the organizing committee provided public transportation, including metro and buses, free of charge to ticket-holding fans.
The American newspaper stated that this gap in costs might affect the fan experience, especially for international visitors, and raises questions about the readiness of infrastructure and logistic services to accommodate the global event optimally.
It continued: "The organizing entities in the United States are expected to face increased pressure to balance revenue generation and provide a seamless experience for football fans around the world."
