Khaberni - Nutrition expert Dr. Margarita Koroleva reported that offal is an essential part of the diet, and its nutritional value equals that of regular meat.
According to her, these products are rich in heme iron, which makes them particularly beneficial for anemia patients.
The expert mentions that offal is divided into internal organs (liver, kidneys, heart) and external organs (head, ears). Although they are much cheaper, they match fish, meat, and poultry in their nutritional value and are a source of complete protein, fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, rare elements, and polysaccharides.
She says: "All internal organs are rich in heme iron, an element that supports general health for everyone, and for anemia patients, its benefits are doubled. Therefore, I advise patients suffering from low hemoglobin levels to regularly consume these foods, as they help regulate blood components."
The expert points out that the liver, whether beef or chicken, is the most beneficial in terms of its iron content. The tongue ranks second in terms of health benefits, explaining that it also contains a high amount of heme iron and complete protein. The heart and lungs are among the foods rich in essential trace nutrients.
According to her, in addition to restoring hemoglobin and iron, offal maintains the level of collagen in the body, which is crucial for bone tissue. Therefore, offal should be eaten once or twice a week. However, it is important to consider the contraindications for their consumption—high levels of uric acid, or gout. Because they contain high levels of purines, which can exacerbate the condition.
Dr. Yekaterina Korbatova adds that offal contains various minerals including zinc and magnesium, which help regulate metabolism and maintain the health of bones, heart, and blood vessels. Moreover, they contain lecithin, which positively affects brain functions. Regular consumption also helps in quick recovery from physical and mental stress.
