Washington Announces Tightening of Naval Blockade on Iran Tehran Doubts Its Effectiveness

Khaberni  - The US Central Command reported that it forced 10 commercial ships to return to Iranian ports since the naval blockade began last Monday, confirming that no ship has -to this moment- penetrated the maritime cordon imposed on Iran.

The US Central Command clarified that the missile destroyer "USS Spruance" intercepted -last Tuesday- an Iranian ship attempting to sneak through the coast.

It also confirmed that one of the American destroyers prevented a ship flying the Iranian flag from circumventing the blockade and exiting through the Strait of Hormuz.

In the same context, the "Wall Street Journal" quoted American officials stating that the naval blockade on Iran might continue indefinitely, and that its economic impact on Tehran could take several months before it drives them to offer concessions in negotiations, affirming that the US Navy is capable of continuing the blockade for an extended period.

Iranian Skepticism

The spokesman for the Energy Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Malek Shariaty, previously confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz was open, indicating that current events are related to mistakes made by the United States in the past.

Shariaty -in statements to Al Jazeera Live- described the American announcement of imposing a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz as "laughable," stating that Washington does not possess the capability to truly control it.

He described the blockade as unethical and conflicting with the interests of the region's countries, emphasizing that Iran cannot rely on American promises, and that Washington's actions contravene the interests of even its allies in the Gulf.
