UAE Summons Iraqi Charge dAffaires Over Attacks Launched from its Territory

Khaberni - The Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned, on Wednesday, the Iraqi Charge d'Affaires in the UAE, Omar Abdelmajid Hamid Al-Obeidi, and delivered him a sternly-worded protest note.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Emirati Foreign Ministry informed the Iraqi Charge d'Affaires of the United Arab Emirates' strong condemnation and absolute rejection of the ongoing 'terrorist' egregious assaults launched from Iraqi territory, despite the announcement of a ceasefire. These brutal attacks targeted several vital facilities in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in a blatant violation of their sovereignty, and their airspace, and a clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter.

The protest note emphasized that the continuation of these brutal attacks carried out by Iran, and the 'terrorist' attacks by its agents, threaten the stability of the region and undermine international efforts in this regard and efforts to enhance security and stability in the region. Moreover, these attacks bring the existing relations with the Republic of Iraq to face serious sensitivities, negatively impacting the ongoing cooperation and fraternal relations between Iraq and the GCC countries.

It also emphasized the need for the Iraqi government to urgently and unconditionally halt and prevent all hostile acts emanating from its territory and directed towards the Gulf States and regional countries, addressing those threats and attacks urgently and responsibly in accordance with relevant international and regional laws and conventions.

The protest note included a reminder of United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2817 (2026), sponsored by 136 countries, specifically demanding an immediate and unconditional stop to any provocation or threats to neighboring countries, including the use of proxies.

In this regard, it stressed the importance of Iraq playing its role in anchoring security and stability in the region, thereby preserving its sovereignty and enhancing its status as an active and responsible partner in its regional surroundings.
