Khaberni - The birth of a noseless girl to Egyptian content creator Moaz, one of the siblings known as "the Zozat," has surged a fierce debate in the medical and social circles after exposing a heated conflict between religious fatwas and medical necessities in cases of rare fetal abnormalities.
Famous doctor and media personality Khaled Montaser commented on the incident in a sharp tone, directing scathing criticisms at the prevalence of religious fatwa over the medical decision in such complex cases.
Khaled Montaser asked on his official "Facebook" account: "Is it forbidden to prevent abortion, or is it the hell that the child and the parents are now living?", condemning the transformation of the doctor's role and advanced ultrasound devices into just an "accessory in front of the authority of sheikhs."
Montaser added that the father found himself in what he described as "the fire of life" seeing his daughter suffering with the ventilator and also the deformities that affected her eyes, asserting that this decision should have been purely medical to save the child and the parents from ongoing suffering.
The roots of the crisis began when the child's father revealed in a video that garnered millions of views, the birth of his daughter with a rare birth defect characterized by complete absence of the nose, a medical condition that has only been recorded 43 times in history.
The father clarified that he learned about the deformity from the fifth month of pregnancy via an "ultrasound" scan, confirming that he consulted religious figures who issued a fatwa against abortion, which led him to continue the pregnancy despite medical warnings.
The father described the suffering after birth, as the infant faced severe difficulties in breathing and feeding, undergoing a tracheotomy to enable her to survive.
The father of the child affirmed that the infant is still under precise medical supervision following the successful initial operation to facilitate breathing, adding that there are medical promises of the possibility of cosmetic surgeries and the manufacturing of a prosthetic nose in the future.
It should be noted that the siblings Moaz and Mazen enjoy wide popularity on social media platforms, with their followers exceeding 6 million on both "Facebook" and "Instagram".
The story of the infant has received wide sympathy, amidst calls for the necessity to review the legislation and regulations that govern abortion of fetuses in cases of severe deformities that do not allow a normal life.
