A silent disease spreading globally A liver disorder that could turn into cirrhosis and cancer

Khaberni - A study published in the British Medical Journal "The Lancet" revealed a sharp rise in cases of fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction, medically known as "metabolic steatosis".

The study warned that the disease could become one of the biggest global health challenges in the coming decades.

Several countries around the world, including France, are witnessing a notable rise in the prevalence of a liver disease that is still not widely known but affects a huge number of people, according to the French site "Actualite".

A recent study published on Monday in the prestigious British medical journal "The Lancet" indicated that cases of "metabolic steatosis" have truly exploded over the past three decades.

The study explains that the number of people affected by this disease has risen from about 500 million in 1990 to around 1.3 billion in 2023, an increase of nearly 143%, representing more than 15% of the world's population.

Estimates suggest that this figure could rise to 1.8 billion people by 2050, an additional increase of over 40%.

This disease is closely linked to the prevalence of obesity and diabetes, where the accumulation of fat in the liver leads to a gradual deterioration in its function.

Over time, the disease may progress to serious complications including liver fibrosis, liver failure, and even liver cancer in some advanced cases.

According to experts, the danger of this disease lies in its silent progression without clear symptoms in its early stages, making its detection often too late in many cases, which complicates treatment.

The medical community warns that this disease could turn into one of the most significant global health challenges in the coming decades, especially with the continued rise in obesity rates and metabolic disorders globally.
