Khaberni - Jordan welcomed, on Wednesday, the adoption by the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its 224th session in Paris of a unanimous decision regarding the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls under the item "Occupied Palestine".
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, explained that the decision regarded all legislative, administrative, and other measures taken by Israel, the occupying power, aimed at altering the character and legal status of the City of Jerusalem as null and void measures that must be annulled.
The decision reiterated the demand for Israel to cease all its illegal and illegitimate actions in the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls that target the exceptional cultural and historical value of Jerusalem, and pose a risk to the cultural heritage of the city.
Al-Majali stated that this decision reaffirms the constants of the Jordanian position regarding the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls, including the Islamic and Christian holy sites, emphasizing the contents of previous resolutions issued by the Executive Board, and decisions of the World Heritage Committee concerning Jerusalem.
