The Pentagon requests a 242fold increase in funding for the design and manufacture of drones

Khaberni - The Pentagon has requested the allocation of $54.6 billion in fiscal year 2027 to fund the design and manufacture of unmanned systems, an increase over current spending in this sector by 242 times.

The Russian agency "Novosti", which reviewed the US budget documents, indicated that the funding for the Independent Defensive Warfare Group (DAWG), which was formed in the Pentagon and specializes in the development and use of unmanned platforms, reached $225 million in the current fiscal year.
It is noted that the expenses of this new group will represent the largest increase in the Pentagon's scientific research and technology budget, with expected expenses on designs and experiments to increase by 63%, from $210.4 billion to $343.7 billion.

DAWG's share of that increase will amount to 41% of the allocated resources.

It is worth noting that the Independent Defensive Warfare Group focuses its efforts on developing, testing, and deploying large numbers of AI-powered unmanned systems for complex wartime tasks, and one of its main goals is to counter Chinese capabilities in the Pacific region.
