A Horrific Scene in the Champions League Was Barcelona Deprived of Its Right

Khaberni - The incident occurred during the Atlético Madrid and Barcelona match in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, featuring a painful incident starring Atlético goalkeeper Juan Musso and Barcelona's midfielder Fermin Lopez.

The moment came in the middle of the first half, in the 24th minute, when Lopez shot a dangerous ball from close range, which Musso skillfully blocked before the movement completed with the goalkeeper's foot crashing violently into the Spanish player's face.

Lopez received the blow from the boot (studded with spikes), causing severe bleeding in his face, which urgently required medical team intervention.

After quick first aid, the player managed to stop the bleeding and continue the game, as his team attempted a European "comeback".

However, referee Clement Turpin refused to award the foul, after an indirect review with the video assistant referee VAR.

Replays showed light contact between the players, not forceful enough to be considered a clear obstruction, which supports the referee's decision not to award a penalty kick.
Despite the violence of the scene, the goalkeeper touched the ball first, and his foot was in a natural position during the attempt to block, making the contact a "natural result of the movement" and not a foul that warrants a penalty kick.

In the end, Barcelona won 2-1 in the second leg, but Atlético Madrid secured qualification to the semi-finals benefiting from their earlier two-goal lead without response.
