What if We Ate Astronaut Food

Khaberni - Ekaterina Burliaeva, an expert at the Russian Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology, revealed the benefits that Earth's inhabitants would gain from following astronaut dietary habits.

The expert said in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS: "If humans consume astronaut food, adhering to all the rules of a healthy diet, it would ensure them a long life, as this system meets all the needs of our bodies."

She added: "We can consume astronaut food, adhering to the same dietary rules of their regimen, that is, consuming grains and proteins for breakfast, and grains and potatoes or pasta with proteins for lunch and dinner, in addition to vegetables, fruits, and some desserts. This system will maintain our health excellently."

Burliaeva emphasized the necessity of calculating nutritional values based on an individual's physical activity level, for instance, an office worker typically needs about 1800-2200 calories daily. Even if consuming healthy food, an increase in calories in the diet will lead to weight gain.
Nutrition experts point out that following a balanced diet rich in plant-based foods, whole grains, and healthy fats is crucial for maintaining heart health, arteries, and reducing the risks of premature death, with many studies indicating that proper nutrition might add years to a person's life.
