Khaberni - In a scene that surpassed the usual limits of social event traditions, the province of Minya in Upper Egypt witnessed a "strange" incident that has become the talk of the hour on social media platforms.
Activists circulated a video documenting the presentation of a substantial monetary gift known as "the dowry" to the groom, amounting to one million Egyptian pounds (about 20,000 US dollars) in cash.
This occurred during a wedding ceremony in the village of "Abu Gurj," belonging to the Bani Mazar district in northern Minya, where one of the attendees surprised everyone by appearing with a handbag, and as soon as he reached the celebration stage, he opened it to display its contents to the audience.
Instead of giving the usual symbolic amounts, the man began to pull out neatly stacked bundles of "two hundred Egyptian pounds" bills, announcing his gift to the groom amidst a state of astonishment and sheer amazement that took over the guests who cheered and marveled at the size of the amount presented.
As the video spread on social platforms, it garnered thousands of views amid comments ranging from congratulations to surprise at the scene that broke the conventional rules known in the "dowry" traditions of the countryside and Upper Egypt.
