Khaberni - U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that Washington has made significant progress in talks with Iran.
In response to a question during an interview with Fox News about the possibility of more talks with Tehran, Vance said, “The ball is in Iran's court.”
He added that the United States expects Iran to make progress on opening the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the negotiations would change if Tehran does not do so.
He explained that not everything went badly during our talks with the Iranians in Islamabad; the Iranians moved towards us in the negotiations but their steps were not sufficient to satisfy Washington.
He said: Yes, we made progress in the talks with Iran but we have not yet reached the end of the road, the Iranian negotiators are very persistent, and Iran having a nuclear weapon would impose terrible costs on the world.
He added that our main condition is the complete stripping of Iran's ability to enrich uranium, noting that the major deal is contingent on Iran giving up its pursuit of nuclear weapons and stopping support for terrorism.
He emphasized that there is a possibility for a major deal but it is up to the Iranians to take the next step.
He added that the blockade imposed on oil in the Strait of Hormuz is putting economic pressure on Iran.
He continued that the coming days will reveal whether the Iranians are ready to take the final steps towards a major agreement, confirming that any Iranian retreat from opening the strait would radically and immediately change our dealings with them.
He said that we prefer to end the process through a big and successful deal and President Trump does not intend to prolong this process.
He acknowledged the rise in energy prices, confirming "We realize that Americans are in pain and we are making fierce negotiating efforts to address that soon."
