Lamine Yamal sparked considerable controversy after appearing with prescription glasses at the press conference, held on Monday evening.
Yamal sat at the table speaking to journalists, stating that he draws inspiration from basketball star LeBron James and Brazilian football player Neymar in trying to inspire a comeback in the UEFA Champions League against Atlético Madrid.
Yamal changed his Instagram profile picture to an image of James holding the NBA Finals trophy in 2016 after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory against the Golden State Warriors despite being down 3-1, achieving a historic comeback.
Yamal told journalists, “He is one of the reference elements that can inspire me in tomorrow's match, and that's why I put him there.. I'll think about what he did and hope for the same outcome for me.”
Yamal caught the spotlight with his unconventional medical glasses, as he typically appears in different styles.
The first unusual appearance of his was at a conference for the Spanish national team in the 2025 Nations League, where he sat wearing an upside-down hat.
This appearance reflects a part of Yamal's playful and also confident personality, belonging to 'Generation Z'.
Based on this confidence, Yamal sent a message to Diego Simeone, coach of Atlético, saying: "Let's see if Simeone will leave me face to face against a player or not."
His exciting appearance might also be part of a marketing strategy for companies, as his star has recently risen and he has contracted to present many advertisements.
