Moderation in Coffee Drinking May Reduce Stress and Improve Mood

Khaberni - A recent study has shown that moderate consumption of coffee may be associated with reduced stress levels and improved mood, highlighting once again the effect of this popular beverage on mental health.

According to the study published in the Journal of Mood Disorders, drinking approximately two to three cups of coffee daily was associated with a decreased risk of anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.

On the other hand, no clear benefits were recorded when consuming less than this range, while higher doses were associated with diminished benefits and potential negative effects such as increased anxiety and sleep disturbances.

The results indicated a J-shaped relationship between coffee consumption and mental health; meaning that moderation is the decisive factor for benefiting from its positive effects.

According to VeryWell Health, nutritionist Morgan L. Walker said the study supports general recommendations related to moderate caffeine consumption, explaining that excess can lead to side effects such as tension and lack of sleep, especially in people more sensitive to caffeine.

The study also showed that genetic differences in caffeine metabolism did not significantly affect the results, with a slightly stronger protective effect recorded in men, and included both regular and decaffeinated coffee; suggesting a potential role for other compounds such as antioxidants.

However, experts warned against exaggerated interpretation of the results, explaining that the study is observational and does not prove a direct causal relationship, and that it relied on self-reported data from participants without detailed information about the method of coffee preparation or timing of consumption.

The researchers emphasized that other lifestyle factors such as sleep, diet, and physical activity play a greater role in mental health, and coffee is not a cure for anxiety or depression, but can be part of a balanced daily routine when consumed in moderation.
