Australia Appoints First Female Army Chief of Staff

Khaberni - The Australian government announced the appointment of Susan Coyle as Chief of Staff, for the first time in the 125-year history of the Australian Army.

Coyle is currently serving as Chief of Joint Capabilities and will succeed Simon Stewart as Chief of Staff in July.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated in an announcement: "Starting in July, we will witness the first female Chief of Staff in the history of the Australian Army."

Defense Minister Richard Marles described General Coyle's appointment as a "historic and pivotal moment."

This appointment comes amidst efforts by the Australian armed forces to increase the number of women in the officer corps.

This appointment is part of the Australian armed forces' efforts to increase the number of women among officer ranks, following a series of accusations previously directed at the military regarding systematic harassment and discrimination.
