Khaberni - For a modest amount not exceeding the cost of dinner in a Parisian restaurant, a lucky winner will soon have the chance to acquire an original painting by artist Pablo Picasso, valued at more than a million dollars.
After the launch of a raffle titled "Picasso for 100 Euros", participants are given the chance to win the painting "Woman's Head" (Tête de Femme) created by the Spanish artist in 1941. The cost of an entry ticket is 100 euros, which is approximately $116.
In support of Alzheimer's research
According to the "Opera Gallery" website, organizers issued 120 thousand tickets for the draw scheduled on April 14, with all proceeds going to the "Foundation for Alzheimer's Research" to support clinical studies about the disease in Europe.
This is the third edition of the initiative, where the profits from the first edition in 2013 went to the restoration of the historic city of Tyre in Lebanon, while the profits from the second edition in 2020 were directed to fund water and sanitation programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olivier Widmaier Picasso, the grandson of the late artist, said in press statements that his grandfather painted "Woman's Head" in the same studio where his famous painting "Guernica" was created.
He added that the estimated value of the painting might be less than its actual worth, stating: "It is worth much more than a million dollars, making it an exceptional prize."
The painting "Woman's Head" dates back to the period when Picasso lived in Paris under German occupation during World War II, and the painting embodies the Cubist style he was famous for, with deliberately distorted features in gray shades reflecting a state of internal contemplation.
Picasso's grandson affirmed that the winner has complete freedom to decide what to do with the prize, whether to keep it, display it in a museum, or resell it, noting that his grandfather adopted the same philosophy in giving away his artworks.
