AlBakkar The government is not in a hurry to pass the Social Security Law

Khaberni - Minister of Labor Khaled Al-Bakkar confirmed that the government is interested in the proposals presented by the Parliamentary Labor Committee concerning the Social Security Law project, praising the efforts made by the committee chaired by Deputy Andre Hawari, alongside the deputies involved in discussing the project over the past weeks.
He stated that the government has received a package of recommendations and amendments reached by the committee, explaining that these proposals cannot be judged immediately, but require in-depth study to measure their impact on the sustainability of the insurance system, and their compatibility with the goals aimed at maintaining the sustainability of the Social Security institution.

He indicated that the government will request a neutral expert team from the International Labour Organization to study these proposals and options presented, and provide technical advice to the Parliamentary Labor Committee, in a way that achieves a balance between the sustainability of the insurance system and not imposing additional burdens on citizens.
The minister pointed out that the main goal of the law proposal submitted by the government is to enhance the sustainability of the insurance system, and to push the break-even point as far back as possible, based on the results of actuarial studies prepared by the Social Security Corporation.

He emphasized that the government is not in a hurry to enact the law, affirming that the priority lies in the accuracy and quality of legislation, which ensures the financial stability of the Social Security Corporation and the preservation of the rights of the subscribers.

In turn, the chairman of the Parliamentary Labor Committee, during the committee's discussion of the Social Security Law amendment project, expressed his great appreciation to the colleagues and female members of the committee for the long hours, days, and significant effort they put into amending provisions of this important law project.

He added that the government approved the Social Security Law and sent it to the House of Representatives according to constitutional frameworks, and after the first reading, the House with a majority referred it to the Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Development, and Population.
He said that the committee has made significant efforts over the past weeks to study the law project, held extended and comprehensive meetings and dialogues with various relevant parties and experts; to gather their opinions and remarks on the law project, and to reach the best possible formulation.

He added that the committee, after listening to everyone’s opinions, presented several amendment proposals for the law project and sent them to the government to demonstrate their impact on the sustainability of the Social Security insurance system, as the basis is the sustainability of the insurance system and at the same time not imposing burdens on citizens.
