Spain A tourist bus plunges down a slope resulting in one death and 27 injuries

Khaberni - A British tourist was killed and 27 others were injured, varying in severity, after a tourist bus veered off course and fell down a rocky slope on the island of "La Gomera" which belongs to the Spanish Canary Islands, while the group was on a boat trip.

The local authorities reported that the accident occurred at exactly 1:15 PM local time on Friday, when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the high-speed road (GM-2) near the town of "San Sebastián de La Gomera".

The bus was carrying 28 people, including 27 British tourists and the driver; the group consisted of 25 adults and three children.

The emergency medical services confirmed that among the injured, four are in critical condition, with the most severe case being airlifted to a hospital on the nearby island of "Tenerife", while the "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe" hospital in La Gomera received the rest of the injured for necessary treatments.

In this regard, Fernando Clavijo, President of the Canary Islands, expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, asserting his ongoing monitoring of the rescue operations and the intervention of emergency teams.

Furthermore, the British Embassy in Madrid issued a statement confirming its communication with the local authorities and its readiness to provide full support to the British citizens affected in this tragic accident.

Meanwhile, the Spanish police have commenced their investigation to determine the causes of the accident, which have not yet been clarified. It is worth noting that the same road experienced a similar accident last year, resulting in one death and ten injuries, raising questions about the safety of the traffic in that rugged mountainous area.
