Arrest of young man who attacked Sam Altmans house with Molotov and threatened to burn down OpenAI headquarters

Khaberni - The San Francisco police arrested a 20-year-old man early Friday morning, following his involvement in launching a Molotov cocktail attack targeting Sam Altman’s residence, the CEO of "OpenAI", and threatening to burn down the company’s headquarters.

"OpenAI" confirmed in an official statement addressed to its employees and published by American media that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, noting that there were no human injuries and the material damage was limited to minor damage to the external gate of the house.

According to police records, authorities received a report at precisely 4:12 AM local time, stating that an unidentified person had thrown a "firebomb" towards a house in the "North Beach" district (known to be Sam Altman’s residence), which ignited the external gate before the perpetrator fled.

Less than an hour later, the police received another report about a person threatening to burn down a commercial building at 1400 Third Street, the location which houses the headquarters of "OpenAI".

Upon the security forces' arrival, they identified the suspect and matched him with the descriptions of the first attack’s perpetrator, and he was immediately arrested.

In turn, "OpenAI" expressed its gratitude for the swift response of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), and said in its statement: "We are extremely grateful for the support provided by the city in helping to maintain the safety of our employees.. The person concerned is currently detained, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies in their investigations."

For his part, Sam Altman has not publicly commented on the incident yet, while the police confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and charges are being prepared against the detained young man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.

This attack comes at a sensitive time for "OpenAI" and its CEO, as the company has faced previous security threats to its offices.

The incident also coincides with recent press reports published by "New Yorker" containing criticisms of Altman’s leadership in the artificial intelligence race, which has put the company and its leaders under intense public scrutiny.
