Doctors Invent New Hybrid Technique for Treating Ventricular Tachycardia

Khaberni - Cardiologists at the General Hospital in the Austrian capital Vienna have achieved a significant medical milestone, in collaboration with the Medical University, represented by performing the first hybrid surgery that combines limited surgical intervention and advanced catheterization to treat life-threatening heart rhythm disorders.

The university hospital explained in a statement that the new innovation targets the treatment of ventricular tachycardia, which leads to a dangerous increase in heart rate from the ventricles.

The doctors reported that the essence of the invention lies in combining two highly advanced techniques, which include performing minimally invasive surgery via endoscopic penetration into the chest and catheter-based electrical ablation to eliminate the sources of electrical malfunctions in the heart.

The surgeons were able to access the outer surface of the heart directly through small incisions between the patient's ribs using a camera, and cardiologists successfully excised the diseased tissue inside the heart with precision using catheter techniques.

The new technique allows access to deeper layers of the heart and enables the treatment of patients whose conditions have not responded to various previous treatments.

The innovation has proven highly successful in providing more precise and effective treatment in challenging medical cases, with reduced risk levels and faster recovery times, sparing patients the need for open-heart surgeries.
