Khaberni - Snap announced a new partnership between its augmented reality glasses subsidiary, Spectacles, and Qualcomm, a chip manufacturer, as the company prepares to launch its wearable device later this year.
The newly expected glasses, soon to be launched, are named "Spectacles" or "Specs" for short.
The recently announced partnership with Qualcomm points to positive indicators for this promising project, and the specifications will rely on Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR platforms, which are integrated systems on a single chip designed to operate augmented and virtual reality devices.
Both companies will also work on developing artificial intelligence on the device, advanced graphics, and intricate digital multi-user experiences as part of a multi-year strategic agreement.
It is worth mentioning that Snap started developing the product more than ten years ago; the last consumer-directed version of the glasses was released in 2019.
Since 2024, the glasses have become a product designated for developers only, allowing Snap the opportunity to work on launching new types of software that the company hopes will attract users upon their release.
