Error Unexpected with Coffee Causes Tooth Staining

Khaberni - For millions of coffee lovers, the daily morning ritual remains a frequent topic of debate: Is it best to start the day with a cup of coffee first or by brushing your teeth?

American dentist Mark Buren provided clarification on this habit, indicating that most people follow the wrong order if they want to avoid tooth staining.

Buren explained in a post on "Instagram" that the reason is not only related to coffee, but to what happens inside the mouth at night, where a thin layer of bacteria and proteins forms on the teeth known as the biofilm, making their surface more susceptible to staining.

According to the doctor, this layer acts like a "magnet" for the pigments found in coffee, especially those that contain milk, such as latte and cappuccino, which leads to the gradual appearance of brown stains on the teeth over time.

He noted that he frequently observes this type of staining in his coffee-loving patients, stating that although it is removable during cleaning, it can be significantly reduced with a simple adjustment to the morning routine.

Buren advises brushing your teeth before drinking coffee instead of afterward, explaining that this removes the plaque layer that stains cling to, making the teeth less susceptible to staining during the day.

Oral health experts also warn against brushing your teeth immediately after drinking coffee, as it is an acidic drink that may temporarily weaken the enamel layer, making brushing them immediately thereafter a factor that may increase surface wear instead of protecting it.

According to specialists, brushing your teeth before coffee also provides a protective fluoride layer that helps protect the enamel, making this simple step more effective for long-term oral health.
