Khaberni - Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday a 32-hour ceasefire over two days in observance of Easter, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Kyiv would comply with this measure.
The agreement on the ceasefire during the Orthodox Christian Easter celebrations on Sunday comes amid a halt in efforts led by the United States to resolve the ongoing conflict of four years, amid tensions in Iran and the Middle East region.
Putin’s announcement is similar to a 30-hour ceasefire ordered last year, during which both parties exchanged accusations of breaches.
The Kremlin’s statement said the ceasefire would take effect on Saturday at 4:00 PM (1300 GMT) until the end of Sunday (2100 GMT).
The statement said, "It is expected that the Ukrainian side will follow the lead of the Russian Federation."
The statement mentioned that Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov issued an order to General Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov "to halt military operations in all directions during this period."
The statement added, "Forces must be on high alert to counter any potential provocations or aggressive actions by the enemy."
