The Municipality All our traffic lights have traffic density sensors

Khaberni – The Traffic Operations Manager in Amman Municipality, engineer Shadi Al-Rawabdeh, said that all the traffic signals in the capital, Amman, have “loop” sensors, and this is for the lanes that have a higher traffic density for more time, and the lane that has no standing cars does not open.

Al-Rawabdeh added, via Hayat Radio,  that Amman is the first Arab city to use smart signals since 2007, and in many locations, this feature might not be noticed due to the high traffic density, but it is noticeable outside peak hours.

Al-Rawabdeh explained that the decision to convert the roundabout into an intersection came about because of statistics that prove a very high incidence of accidents on the roundabout’s premises.

Engineer Al-Rawabdeh's comments came in response to a note from Mr. Nidal, who spoke on the Hayat Voice program saying that he lives near the Applied Sciences roundabout, and that the decision to remove the roundabout and replace it with traffic lights will cause traffic crises in the area and affect the residents nearby, as the roundabout is usually passable while setting up the signal might cause congestion.

Amman Greater Municipality decided to convert the Applied Sciences University roundabout in the Shafa Badran area into an intersection equipped with traffic lights on four directions, in a step aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing public safety at the site.
