Macron to Trump and Bezshkian Ceasefire Must Include Lebanon

Khaberni  - French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the importance of including Lebanon in any ceasefire agreement with Iran, considering it a "fundamental condition" for ensuring its durability.

Macron stated - in a post on the “X” platform on Wednesday - that he informed both the American President Donald Trump and his counterpart, Iranian President Masoud Bezshkian, that deciding to accept the ceasefire was "the best choice".

He added that he expressed hope that "all warring parties fully respect the ceasefire across all war fronts, including Lebanon," affirming that including all fronts is a condition for ensuring continued calm.

The French President also mentioned that any agreement between Tehran and Washington should address a range of issues, including the Iranian nuclear program and missile program, as well as Tehran’s regional policies, and what he described as acts that obstruct navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Macron concluded by saying that this was also discussed in his talks today with the leaders of Qatar, UAE, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Solidarity with Lebanon

In a new statement on the “X” platform, Macron said that he spoke with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Fayaad Salam, indicating that he expressed to them "France’s full solidarity amid random Israeli strikes".

The French President confirmed that the Israeli strikes pose a direct threat to the sustainability of the ceasefire, which must fully include Lebanon.

He added: "I reaffirmed the necessity of maintaining Lebanon's unity, and supporting the authorities' efforts to implement the Hezbollah disarmament plan."

Macron's statements come at a time when Lebanon has seen a military escalation, as simultaneous Israeli raids on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of 254 people and injuries to 1165 others, as reported by the National News Agency citing a statement by the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Lebanon.

Earlier, the Israeli military announced that it had carried out the most intense attack on Lebanon since the start of the war, targeting over 100 sites within 10 minutes.

In response to the attacks, the Iranian Tasnim news agency - quoting an informed source - reported that Iran is considering withdrawing from the ceasefire agreement, should Israel continue to violate it by attacking Lebanon.

This comes at a time when there is a divergence regarding the inclusion of the Lebanese theatre in the ceasefire, while the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed that Israel supports President Donald Trump's decision to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, but he emphasized that this agreement "does not include Lebanon".

Conversely, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif - whose country plays a mediation role - announced that the agreement includes an immediate ceasefire "everywhere, including Lebanon", which is also insisted upon by Tehran.
