The Economic Court in Cairo, Egypt, chaired by Counselor Hasnaa Shaaban, set the next session on May 4th, to examine the lawsuit filed by Sherine Abdel Wahab against Festival singer Issam Sasa, accusing him of appropriating the melody of the song «On My Mind» and using it without permission from the rights owners, following its presentation to the expert.

A formal complaint accuses Sasa of stealing the melody
This trial follows a formal complaint filed by lawyer Sameh Qanawi to the Attorney General, acting on behalf of the composer Wael Mohamed, in which he accused Issam Sasa of using a melody owned by his client and exploiting it illegitimately, prompting authorities to refer the case to the Economic Court for adjudication.
The complaint clarified that the composer Wael Mohamed owns the melody of the song «On My Mind» which was sung by Sherine Abdel Wahab in her 2005 album titled «I Must Live», and that he had previously legally transferred the rights to exploit the melody to her.
According to investigations, Issam Sasa reused the same melody in a festival titled «Everything Changed, State of Emergency» in 2021, and published it across his social media accounts, achieving financial profits, in violation of the intellectual property protection law provisions.
