By the Numbers How Much Will Iran Earn Annually if It Imposes Fees on Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz

Khaberni - Hasan Abedini, the head of political information at the Iranian Broadcasting and Television Authority, announced that Iran could earn $64 billion annually from fees on oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Abedini stated: "The Strait of Hormuz has become a passage that will be smartly managed by Iran, and the entire world agrees with this."

He added: "For example, if 32,000 ships passed through the strait last year, and if $2 million were collected from each of them, the total would be about $64 billion, which is the amount Iran would receive."

This announcement came after US President Donald Trump declared earlier today that Iran has agreed to fully and immediately open the Strait of Hormuz. Later, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran would open the strait for ship passage for two weeks, with possible transit through coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and considering technical restrictions.
