Energy Reducing Financial Losses and Expanding the Renewable Energy Umbrella During the First Quarter of 2026

Khaberni - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources released today, Wednesday, its first quarterly report for the year 2026, achieving tangible achievements in the areas of financial reform and expanding the scope of utilizing renewable energy, and developing the gas and mineral resources sector, in line with the "Sustainable Resources" driver.
The report indicates that the ministry is currently monitoring 12 projects for the production of green hydrogen in cooperation with global companies, with the issuance of the preliminary report related to the development of a joint infrastructure mechanism for hydrogen projects, which supports investment attraction and regulation of work in this vital field.

The report clarified that the renewable energy and energy efficiency axis saw notable progress in implementing projects aimed at enhancing reliance on clean energy sources and increasing consumption efficiency. The installation of 399 solar systems for needy families began, out of 1086 targeted systems for families benefiting from the National Aid Fund, and 1611 traditional street lighting units were replaced with LED units in the Mafraq Governorate, as part of the second phase of the energy efficiency improvement program. In addition, a contracting agreement was signed for the implementation of the installation of solar thermal heaters for government hospitals in the North region, totaling 9 hospitals.

Within the framework of supporting the delivery of electricity to remote areas, the report confirmed that 359 requests were approved within the "Felus Al-Reef" program out of 480 applications studied. The support included deserving categories, where 27 solar energy systems were installed for military injured, out of 175 solar energy systems; in addition to the adoption of the final designs for the municipalities' projects in the North region.

During the first quarter of 2026, the ministry continued its efforts in developing the exploration and production sector, where 50 percent of the consultancy agreements to drill 80 wells in the Risha field were completed, concurrently with the start of the actual drilling of the first section for two wells at a depth of 500 meters, and work is ongoing to drill 500 meters for the third well. In addition, three new wells were connected to the production lines in the Risha field, contributing to raising the production capacity of the field alongside the completion of the work on removing overlaps related to the 3D seismic surveys in the Jafur area, and the commencement of the data processing stage.

The report also referred to the success of the financial reform plan in achieving a real reduction in the energy sector's losses for the year 2025, amounting to 113 million dinars as a result of reducing electrical loss and reducing operating costs.
This development coincides with the acceleration of work on strategic projects, where the ministry clarified that this performance reflects balanced progress in various aspects of the energy sector, with continued work on enhancing reliance on renewable energy, developing local resources, and improving financial and operational efficiency.
