Delcy Rodriguez continues to lead Venezuela despite the end of her temporary mandate

Khaberni  - Delcy Rodriguez temporarily continues to head the presidency of Venezuela, despite the expiration of the 90-day mandate granted by the Supreme Constitutional Court, which ended last Friday.

This continuation occurs amid legal uncertainty, as lawmakers have not yet made an official decision to extend her term, following the January arrest of President Nicolas Maduro by the United States.

Rodriguez bases her authority on the Supreme Court's decision, which considered Nicolas Maduro's absence as "forced" and resulting from an American "abduction."

Under the constitution, the Vice President occupies the position temporarily, with the possibility of one extension for ninety days, which allowed Delcy Rodriguez to assume these duties as she was the Vice President.

Lifting Sanctions

Last Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury's website reported that the United States lifted the sanctions imposed on Delcy Rodriguez, the interim president of Venezuela, less than three months after Maduro was arrested during an American raid on the capital Caracas.

The administration of American President Donald Trump collaborated with Delcy Rodriguez, a former ally of Nicolas Maduro, as Washington sent the Energy and Interior Secretaries to Caracas accompanied by potential investors.

The two sides reached an agreement to sell Venezuelan oil to the United States, and the American administration praised reforms aimed at attracting foreign investments in the oil and mining sectors, along with issuing exemptions from some sanctions.

Last March, Washington officially recognized Rodriguez as the leader of Venezuela, paving the way for her government to reopen the embassy and consulates in the United States, and regain control over Venezuelan companies abroad.
