Khaberni - The Chinese-Russian veto thwarted a Bahraini resolution in the Security Council regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Bahraini Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, while chairing a Security Council meeting to endorse the project today (Tuesday), said: «We regret the refusal to approve the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz», calling on the international community to firmly stand against Iran.
He pointed out that the proposed resolution addresses Iran's repeated hostile behavior, noting that Iran uses the Strait of Hormuz as a political and economic pressure tool.
He mentioned that Iran repeatedly imposes economic blockades and threats to close «Hormuz» instead of diplomacy, and has persisted in threatening navigation in the waters of the Arabian Gulf and practicing direct threats to international peace and security.
Al-Zayani accused Iran of violating international conventions on maritime navigation security.
He noted that the region is going through a highly delicate and sensitive situation as Iran continues its aggressions, warning the international Security Council of allowing the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed as the situation may recur in other areas and undermine the credibility of international resolutions.
The Bahraini Foreign Minister emphasized that Iran deprives the world of a vital path for life, stressing by saying: «Iran has no right to close the Strait of Hormuz to navigation».
Al-Zayani added: «The security of the Strait of Hormuz is a shared international responsibility, and any disruption in the passage of goods through the strait has a negative global impact, as large quantities of oil, gas, and medicines pass through it». Al-Zayani stressed that the threats to navigation do not expire with time, calling on Iran to cooperate with the international community instead of escalating.
