Syrian Minister of Transport The Middle East corridor will change the economic landscape within 3 years

Khaberni - The Syrian Minister of Transport, Yarub Badr, confirmed that the tripartite meeting that brought together Syria, Jordan, and Turkey in Amman constitutes a strategic station for translating technical understandings into executive steps, paving the way for launching a new phase of economic and logistical integration among the three countries.

Badr explained that the meeting reflects a genuine political will that goes beyond protocol, towards building a regional partnership based on mutual interests, praising the good organization and hosting by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and appreciating the efforts of the Jordanian Minister of Transport, Nidal Al-Qatamin, in making the meeting a success.

He pointed out that the geographical location of the three countries provides them with a unique competitive advantage, as a vital link that connects the north to the south and the east to the west, stating that the development of the transport sector is the key foundation for activating this role and maximizing its benefits.

He indicated that the signing of the tripartite memorandum of understanding lays the groundwork for launching major strategic projects, primarily the revival and modernization of the railway connection, with the Hejaz Railway project at the forefront, which will enhance the movement of goods and passengers according to modern standards.

He added that the existing technical cooperation, supported by the Turkish side, will contribute to completing the missing links and rehabilitating the infrastructure, ensuring smooth rail movement from Anatolia to the Port of Aqaba and the Arabian Gulf, within an integrated regional transport corridor.

In a related context, Badr revealed that the Syrian Ministry of Transport's vision for 2026 is based on three main pillars, including facilitating transit movement through the alignment of fees and simplification of border procedures, enhancing logistical integration through connecting ports with the Arab hinterland, and adopting smart transport solutions to support digital transformation and enhance the competitiveness of trade routes.

He affirmed that there is a significant convergence of visions between the three countries, which enhances the chances of achieving shared goals, noting that the signed roadmap represents a practical commitment to transform borders into bridges for development and integration.

Badr concluded by affirming that activating the Middle East corridor through the three countries, expected to be fully operational within three years, will bring a qualitative transformation in the regional economic landscape, expressing his anticipation for the immediate implementation of the memorandum's provisions through the joint technical committees.
