  • Ministry of Water: Expected improvement in water supply during the summer compared to previous seasons

Khaberni - Omar Salama, spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, said that the current rainy season 2025-2026 is considered "excellent," having achieved more than 130% of the average annual rainfall in the Kingdom, which is about 8.1 billion cubic meters annually.

Salama clarified on Tuesday that most of the dams in the southern and central regions of the Kingdom were fully filled due to successive rainfalls in most areas of the Kingdom, while the northern dams did not reach their full storage capacity as the current rainy season was concentrated in the southern, eastern, and central areas, according to the Kingdom.

He mentioned that the Al-Wehda Dam in the north of the Kingdom only received "minimal" amounts of water during this season, expressing hope for improved storage for the remainder of the season.

He pointed out that the current indicators of the rainy season are promising for an excellent agricultural season, expecting it to directly reflect on enabling the Ministry to secure drinking water and water supply needs for citizens during the summer better than in previous seasons, contributing to enhancing water and food stability in the Kingdom.

He explained that the groundwater basins recorded a significant improvement in some areas due to the abundance of rainfalls, which will have an effect on reducing their decline and improving water quality in most of them, in addition to most of the dams and desert lodges, totaling 650 with a storage capacity of over 150 million cubic meters, being fully filled, as well as tens of thousands of collective wells for rainwater harvesting in homes and farms across most provinces of the Kingdom.
