Khaberni - On Monday, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and the General Commander of the Armed Forces, First Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decision that abolishes the positions of deputy and assistants to the army commander.
A statement issued by the Sudanese Armed Forces stated that Burhan issued a decision "which entails the cancellation of decision 164 of 2023 regarding the appointment of the deputy commander-in-chief and the assistants to the commander-in-chief".
It was noted that the decision "stipulates the retention of the individuals affected by the canceled decision as members of the Armed Forces Command Authority".
On another note, Al-Burhan issued on Monday a decision to appoint a number of assistants, thereby appointing First Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabbashi Ibrahim Shanto as Assistant for Construction and Strategic Planning, First Lieutenant General Mirghani Idris Suleiman Idris as Assistant for Military Industries, and Lieutenant General, Navy Consultant Engineer Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim Karima as Assistant for International Relations and Military Cooperation.
Last Thursday, Burhan relieved Chief of Staff Mohamed Osman Al-Hussein from his position, referred him to retirement, and appointed First Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta as his successor.
He also announced the formation of a new General Staff headed by Al-Atta, appointing Abdul Khair Abdullah Nasser Durgham as Deputy Chief of Staff, and Mohammad Ali Ahmed Subair as Head of the Military Intelligence Authority.
April 6th Anniversary
Furthermore, today, Monday, Burhan praised in a statement on the occasion of the April 6th anniversary (the anniversary of the popular uprising that overthrew former President Jaafar Nimeiri on April 6, 1985), the role of the armed forces "as partners in the journey of the state throughout various historical milestones".
Burhan reminded of the military’s responses to the demands of the people in 1985 and 2019, and its support for the citizens in April 2023 during what he described as "the battle of dignity" against the Rapid Support Forces, according to a statement issued today by the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
Burhan stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces are working to respond to the needs of the citizens, affirming "the military institution's commitment to continuing to support national stability".
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army has been engaged in a war against the Rapid Support Forces due to disagreements over integrating the latter into the military institution, leading to famine as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, and resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Sudanese and the displacement of about 13 million people.
