Backup Encryption Your Main Shield for Protecting Your Data

Khaberni - With the increasing reliance on digital storage, mere data backup is no longer sufficient; it has become essential to secure these backups through encryption, especially when using external drives that are easily lost or stolen.

In this context, many reports have confirmed that having at least one backup copy of data is essential, but leaving it unprotected could expose sensitive information such as personal photos and financial documents to risk if they fall into the wrong hands.

The Importance of Encryption
External drives are easy to transport and use, but they are also more susceptible to being lost or stolen.

If that happens, anyone can access the contents if they are not encrypted; because the encryption process turns the data into a format that is unreadable, and it can only be accessed using a password or a specific key, ensuring that the information remains safe even if the device is lost.

Steps to Encrypt
Mac users can easily encrypt their drives using the Disk Utility tool, where the disk is first erased and then reformatted in an encrypted format.

The process includes choosing an encryption system and setting a strong password, with a warning that losing the password means losing full access to the data without the possibility of recovery. As for Windows 11 users, the system provides the BitLocker tool for disk encryption, which is available in some versions like Pro and Enterprise.

This tool allows for full disk encryption without the need to delete it first, with the possibility of saving a recovery key to ensure access to the data in case the password is forgotten.

Open Source Option
If using the disk between different systems like Mac and Windows, it is advisable to use external software like VeraCrypt, which is an open source tool supporting multiple systems.

This solution is distinguished by its ability to create an encrypted storage unit that works on various devices, using strong software to ensure the highest levels of security.

In conclusion, with the increase in digital threats, encrypting data has become not just an advanced technical option, but a fundamental necessity for anyone seeking to protect their personal and professional information from unauthorized access.
