Khaberni - Engineer Mohamed Shamroukh, head of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, said that Egypt is about to launch a new "parental" mobile SIM card for children's use in the coming days.
This was stated during a meeting of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the House of Representatives, chaired by MP Ahmed Badawy today, dedicated to listening to the views of student unions from schools and universities on the draft law regulating children's use of social media platforms, today Sunday.
Shamroukh explained that the child-specific SIM card is undergoing technical preparation and trials with companies, with its commercial launch soon to occur across all four operating telecommunication companies in Egypt: Vodafone, Orange, WE, and Etisalat.
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, said that the SIM card will be launched within a maximum of 60 days.
The Minister of Communications further explained: "Parental control and monitoring are required, whether through the use of new mobile SIMs for children or fixed internet."
