Khaberni - Economic expert Ibrahim Al-Khasawneh refuted the statements of the Amman Municipality regarding the privatization of the waste management file, confirming that the agreements signed with private companies reflect a different reality from what was stated in the municipality's statement.
Al-Khasawneh explained in a post on "Facebook" that "Omran Amman for Treatment and Recycling," announced as a Jordanian company wholly owned by the Municipality, does not mean that it is the only entity concerned with managing the waste file or recycling.
He added that the company, according to the powers granted to it by the municipality, signed - in the presence of the Mayor of Amman - agreements with three private companies to manage the waste file in Jordan, with a contract extending for ten years and valued at one billion dinars.
He clarified that the contracted companies include a consortium comprising "EFS" and "Mekamor", in addition to the Lebanese company "Mouawad" in partnership with the Jordanian company "Qilada", along with the Emirati company "Emdad" owned by the government of Dubai with a Jordanian private sector partner.
Al-Khasawneh noted that two companies have already started work at the beginning of April, and the third company is scheduled to commence its operations at the beginning of June.
He confirmed that what was included in the municipality's statement does not deny the privatization of the waste file, pointing out that the Mayor is aware of this, according to his post.
