Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the launch of a rehabilitation and maintenance project for several vital roads in the Northern Region. Technical activities will start next Monday on parts of the Zarqa-Mafraq road as the beginning of this central bid.
This strategic action is part of the Ministry's comprehensive plan to enhance infrastructure efficiency and keep pace with the rapid urban expansion and steady economic growth witnessed by the kingdom—aiming to provide safe roads that reduce traffic congestion and enhance public safety levels for all road users and facilitate movement between different areas and cities.
The estimated cost of this vital project is about 6.1 million Jordanian Dinars, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. The implementation works are scheduled to continue over 300 working days according to the approved timeline.
The tender targets a group of main roads affected by heavy traffic loads, including the maintenance of parts of the Amman-Jerash-Irbid road, the Baghdad International Road, and the roads from Jerash to Zarqa, Jerash to Mafraq, Irbid to Mafraq, Irbid to Beit Ras Umm Qais, Irbid's Salam Street, Mafraq's Manshiyya Bani Hassan road, in addition to the Zarqa-Mafraq road.
The nature of the construction works in this project includes comprehensive maintenance using the latest asphalt mixes, scraping damaged layers, and fully rehabilitating them. It also involves precise technical remedies and patching for worn-out surfaces. Additionally, it includes elements of public safety like painting, installing reflectors and barriers, and specialized maintenance for concrete bridges and structural facilities and pedestrian bridges in the Northern Region to ensure their long-term structural integrity and safety.
In terms of managing traffic flow during the implementation period, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to maintain continuity of movement without closing roads to citizens, thus adopting a system of partial traffic diversions. These diversions ensure alternating and organized traffic on one lane while work is done on the other, with all safety components enhanced to the highest international standards.
The Ministry called upon citizens to fully cooperate and adhere to the directions provided by the field teams, the executing contractor's staff, and the Public Security Directorate to ensure the project is completed with the highest quality and minimal impact on daily traffic flow.
