Arab American University pharmacy students present a workshop on obesity and healthy nutrition at Bariq Al Majd Model Academy

Khaberni - Stemming from Arab American University's pioneering mission in community service and enhancing health awareness, and as part of its commitment to its educational role towards early educational stage students, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized an awareness workshop at the Bariq Al Majd Model Academy School, under the slogan: "Obesity, its dangers, prevention methods, and healthy nutrition" for seventh and eighth grade (boys) students, aiming to enhance their awareness of healthy lifestyles and ways to prevent obesity.

Representing Arab American University in this event were Dr. Majdoline Al-Allawneh, a faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy, along with active participation from several students of the college, namely: the student Rashaa Sultan, the student Firas Abu Aabed, and the student Saba Al Deiri. The team provided simplified scientific educational content suitable for the targeted age group in an interactive manner that combines knowledge and application, which contributes to reinforcing health concepts and promoting positive behaviors among students.

The workshop aimed to instill concepts of health culture in students from an early age, and to enhance their awareness of the importance of preventing obesity as one of the major contemporary health challenges, in addition to encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles based on balanced nutrition and regular physical activity. The content included definitions of obesity and its causes related to unhealthy dietary habits and lack of physical activity, and reviewed major complications, especially the increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. The workshop also focused on promoting daily healthy behaviors through awareness of the importance of choosing healthy foods, reducing fast food consumption, organizing sleep schedules, and routinely practicing physical activity. The event was distinguished by notable interaction from the students through interactive activities and educational competitions that contributed to simplifying and consolidating health concepts in a practical and enjoyable manner.

In this context, Professor Dr. Rana Abu Huwaij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Arab American University, affirmed the faculty's ongoing commitment to implementing awareness initiatives aimed at serving the local community, especially school students, believing that health awareness constitutes a foundation for building an informed generation enjoying better health, capable of adopting sound behaviors, and making positive decisions that contribute to improving the quality of their lives in the future. At the end of the visit, the administration of Bariq Al Majd Model Academy expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Arab American University and the Faculty of Pharmacy for this quality initiative that contributes to spreading health awareness and promoting positive behaviors among students, appreciating the efforts made in presenting purposeful educational content in a distinctive interactive style.
