UAE condemns attack on its embassy in Damascus Syria rejects insults to states

Khaberni - The UAE, on Saturday, strongly condemned the "riots and assaults" that targeted the premises of its diplomatic mission and the residence of the head of the mission in the Syrian capital Damascus, while the Syrian Foreign Ministry emphasized its "stance against any attack or attempt to approach embassies and diplomatic premises in Syria."

This follows a protest organized by Syrians on Thursday in front of the UAE embassy in Damascus, during which they demanded the release of leader Essam Bouidani, accusing the UAE authorities of detaining him, with no official comment from Abu Dhabi regarding these allegations.

It is noted that Bouidani is one of the leaders of the armed factions that entered the capital Damascus among the Syrian revolutionaries in late 2024, succeeding in overthrowing the Bashar al-Assad regime.

The UAE Foreign Ministry stated in a release that it "strongly condemns and denounces the riots, attempts to sabotage property, and assaults that targeted the premises of its mission and the residence of the head of the mission in the Syrian capital Damascus."

It affirmed "its rejection and disdain for the unacceptable insults to the national symbols of the state."

It urged the "necessity to protect the premises and diplomatic missions and their staff, according to international laws and norms, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which ensures full immunity for diplomatic buildings and their employees."

The UAE requested Syria "to fulfill its duties in securing the embassy and its employees, investigate the circumstances of these attacks, ensure they are not repeated, and take all necessary legal measures to hold those responsible accountable."

Syria's Position

In contrast, the Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement on Saturday, its firm and steadfast position in rejecting any attack or attempt to approach the embassies and diplomatic premises accredited in Syria.

It emphasized that these premises are protected under international law and diplomatic agreements and represent symbols of relations between states and peoples.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry also expressed its outright rejection and condemnation of any slogans or actions that insult states or infringe upon their symbols, stating that such behavior contradicts the principles of mutual respect and international cooperation.

Furthermore, the ministry added, "While respecting citizens' rights to express their opinions, the ministry emphasizes the importance of exercising this right within the laws and regulations in force, while committing to maintaining public security, away from any practices that may disrupt stability or affect accredited embassies and diplomatic premises."
