Resignation of the President of the Italian Football Federation Following Failure to Qualify for the World Cup

Khaberni  - Gabriel Gravina, the president of the Italian Football Federation, announced today, Thursday, his resignation following the national team's failure to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time.

This announcement came after a disappointing season for Italian football, as the team failed to achieve the desired results for the international tournament, sparking widespread criticism from fans and both local and international media.

The Italian government urged Gravina, who has been head of the federation since 2018, to resign following Italy's penalty shootout defeat in the European playoff final against Bosnia and Herzegovina last Tuesday.

The Italian Football Federation announced in a statement that it will hold an extraordinary general assembly meeting on June 22 to elect a new president, and that Gravina has offered to appear before a parliamentary committee on April 8 "to report on the state of Italian football."

The last time Italy qualified for the World Cup was in 2014, and since winning the title for the fourth time in 2006, the team has only won one match in the finals.

Yet, surprisingly, Italy won the 2020 European Championship, which was held in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.
