Golden Fruit Stirs Controversy Does It Really Treat Nocturia

Khaberni - Do you suffer from frequent waking up at night due to the need to urinate, which affects the quality of your sleep? Some claims circulating on social media platforms suggest that a natural fruit may hold a solution to this problem, but what is the truth?

Health experts on the "Nature Wellness" platform shared a video claiming that a small golden-colored fruit might help reduce the frequency of nocturnal urination, in addition to contributing to bladder relaxation, reducing inflammation, and enhancing sleep quality.

This fruit is known as Aguaymanto, which is the Spanish name for the goldenberry or also known as cape gooseberry or Peruvian groundcherry, and it grows in the Andes regions of South America, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years in countries like Peru and Ecuador, according to the "WebMD" site.

These fruits are distinguished by their high nutritional value, containing vitamin C, antioxidants, and essential minerals, in addition to fibers and vitamins such as thiamine and niacin, with relatively low calories.

Research published in the National Library of Medicine indicates that this fruit contains biologically active compounds, such as flavonoids and phenols, which act as antioxidants and help reduce inflammation and support overall health.

Nocturnal urination is a common problem, especially with aging, where data transferred by the "StatPearls" platform shows that about one-third of adults over the age of thirty suffer from waking up to urinate at least twice during the night, and the percentage rises to 50% among those over sixty.

The causes of this condition vary, including excessive fluid intake before bed, urinary tract infections, diseases such as diabetes and prostate issues, in addition to some medications, or the consumption of caffeine and alcohol.

Doctors warn that frequent nocturnal urination may be an indicator of underlying diseases, such as kidney or heart diseases or sleep disorders, which necessitates medical review to determine the cause and establish appropriate treatment.

Despite the high nutritional value of Aguaymanto fruit, its effect on nocturnal urination is not scientifically proven, while experts recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle and consulting a doctor as the primary option for dealing with this issue.
