Jordanian Iftaa Suicide is a major sin

Khaberni  - The Jordanian Iftaa Department stated that suicide is a major sin forbidden by Sharia, and it is a crime against the human soul.

The Iftaa Department called for the convergence of all efforts including guidance, family, media, education, and mental health to build a national safety network that ensures that every individual finds a helping hand when they think all ways have been cut off, thus transforming the culture of despair into a creed of good faith in Allah and holding onto goodness and hope.

Following is the text of the statement:

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions. And thereafter:

Suicide is a major sin forbidden by Sharia, and it is a crime against the human soul, as Almighty said: {And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful} [An-Nisa: 29], and a person's faith makes him a servant to Allah, surrendered to Him, believing that his life belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and thus he does not own the right to end it by choice. The Prophet, peace be upon him, explained that belief in fate, its good and its bad, is among the pillars of faith. This, and our religious, societal, and ethical responsibility obliges us all to unite in confronting "suicide", as our firm beliefs and the Sharia laws that regulate our lives form a strong barrier against this dangerous act through the faith-based and practical pillars derived from our noble Islamic religion, which provide the true meaning of existence to humans, equip them with hope in the darkest conditions, and make them messengers in this life working through their connection to Allah and trust in Him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: (Let not one of you wish for death due to a harm that has befallen him. If one must do so, let him say: Allahumma ahyini ma kanatil-hayatu khayran li, wa tawaffani idha kanatil-wafatu khayran li) Sahih al-Bukhari.

And if a Muslim finds himself contemplating suicide or something of that nature, he should frequently seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, ask for forgiveness, increase his acts of obedience, remember the Hereafter, and what Allah has prepared in it for the patient ones in terms of reward and blessings, as Almighty said: (And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who when disaster strikes them, say
