Khaberni - Hussein Al-Amoush, head of the Parliamentary Guidance and Media Committee, confirmed the importance of responsible national media's role in protecting the nation and its citizens from rumors, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to professionalism and objectivity in news reporting, especially given the present challenges and circumstances.
This came during a meeting chaired by him on Thursday, held by the committee to discuss the mechanisms of media dealing with crises, attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Hala Al-Jarrah, the Minister of Government Communication, the Government Spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani, and the Secretary General of the Ministry, Zaid Al-Nawaiseh.
Al-Momani affirmed that the current stage requires clear professional media that places information within its correct context, away from populist or irresponsible discourse, emphasizing that media forms a fundamental line of defense for stability.
He explained that the spread of rumors or the dissemination of inaccurate information undermines community trust, asserting that rumors and misleading information pose a direct threat to community security, and that dealing with these should be through quick correction and reverting to trustworthy official sources.
Al-Momani emphasized that the law will be strictly applied to anyone promoting misleading or fabricated information, warning against systematic deceit attempts aiming to destabilize Jordan.
He pointed out that the elements of strength of the Jordanian state are represented in the Hashemite leadership, the armed forces, security agencies, and the awareness of the community, in addition to the national economy, affirming that these elements form an integrated system to defend the state.
Al-Amoush called for the coordination of media efforts to stay away from rumors, especially those affecting the citizen, emphasizing the necessity to support the stability of the nation, and stressing the importance of the role of the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army and security agencies in maintaining the security and safety of the citizens.
In turn, Al-Jarrah affirmed the competence and professionalism recognized in Jordanian media, calling for the cementing of the concept of “state media,” not “government media,” with the necessity of holding intruders to the profession accountable, and focusing on specialized media.
For their part, the deputies Hail Ayash, Jihad Abboi, Mohammad Al-Sabilah, Noor Abu Ghoush, Ahmad Al-Raqab, Firas Al-Qublan, Shaher Al-Shatnawi, Omar Bani Khalid, Arwa Al-Hajaya, and Mohammad Al-Raoud, emphasized that official media represents a national compass and a shield against rumors, insisting on the importance of accuracy and objectivity, and rallying around the Hashemite leadership and security agencies, especially during the current times.
They valued the role of the armed forces and security agencies in protecting the security of the kingdom and its citizens, highlighting the significant impact of media in directing public opinion.
