Khaberni - The American "Atlantic" newspaper revealed military plans prepared by senior leaders in the US military to carry out ground operations inside Iranian territory, aiming to take control of strategic chokepoints and nuclear facilities, awaiting the green light from President Donald Trump.
According to the report, which the newspaper sourced from three informed individuals, the plans include two main operations; the first aims to occupy the strategic Kharg Island, which is a vital artery for the Iranian economy as about 90% of Iranian oil is exported through it.
The second operation involves conducting ground raids by special forces targeting enriched uranium storage facilities.
The report noted that these military steps involve significant risks and do not guarantee a quick end to the conflict, as targeting oil facilities might lead to a dramatic spike in global energy prices, while special forces face risks of falling into Iranian ambushes.
Politically, Trump faces increasing pressure and a division of opinions; where hawkish parties and regional allies push for an escalation that leads to regime change, while factions within the White House and the "MAGA" movement warn of the economic and political repercussions of these operations, especially as opinion polls show that two-thirds of the American public want to end the war quickly.
