Electronic Linkage between Civil Status and Public Security to Facilitate Procedures for Jordanians

Khaberni - The Parliamentary Legal Committee, chaired by lawyer Aref Al-Saayida, commenced on Wednesday, a discussion on a draft amendment to the Civil Status Law for the year 2026, in the presence of the Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department Ghayth Al-Tayeb, Assistant Director Talal Al-Fayez, and Director of the Information Technology Directorate Mamoun Al-Sanabreh.

Al-Saayida affirmed that the amendments were made to keep up with the digital transformation and information technology, pointing out the importance of facilitating services provided to citizens.

In their turn, MPs Mustafa Al-Khasawneh, Bayan Al-Mahasiri, Dina Al-Bashir, Ismail Al-Mashaqbah, Awni Al-Zoubi, Abdel Halim Al-Ananbeh, Nasser Al-Nawasrah, Mohammad Bani Melhem, and Mohammad Salameh Al-Ghuwairi stated that the amendments keep up with developments in information technology and digital transformation, serving the interest of the citizen.

For his part, Al-Tayeb explained that the amendments aim to keep up with the rapid digital transformation, noting that the digital identity is a reflection of the smart identity, and that there is an electronic linkage between the Civil Status Department and the Public Security Directorate to facilitate procedures for the citizens.

He also pointed out that there have been cases of misuse of identity by some citizens, asserting that the Department’s goal is to facilitate for the citizens and provide the best service to them, and that after the approval of the law project, digital identity will be adopted in all government bodies, while maintaining the confidentiality of documents and personal data by specialized technicians.

It is noted that the justifications for the draft law aim to facilitate government procedures, and to expand the scope of providing services electronically, through the adoption of the digital identity to prove identity in all transactions, and establishing digital postal addresses for citizens for purposes of judicial, administrative, and financial notifications issued by official entities and municipalities.
