30 New Features Reshaping the Slack Platform

Khaberni - Salesforce announced extensive updates to the Slack platform, in a move that reflects its accelerated shift towards integrating artificial intelligence technologies into its products, during an event held in San Francisco.

The CEO of the company, Marc Benioff, unveiled an upgraded version of "Slack" that includes more than 30 new features supported by artificial intelligence, with major improvements to the smart assistant "Slack Bot".

Reusable smart skills
Among the most notable new additions is what the company described as "reusable smart skills," which allow users to define specific tasks that the assistant can automatically perform in different contexts, according to a report published by "TechCrunch".

For example, a user can issue a simple command like "set up a budget," and "Slack Bot" will gather data from conversations and linked applications, then prepare a comprehensive plan, and even schedule an automatic meeting with the concerned parties based on their job roles.

Broader integration with smart systems
"Slack Bot" has also become a client for the Model Context Protocol, which allows it to connect to external services, including the Agentforce platform, launched by the company in 2024 to develop artificial intelligence agents.

Thanks to this integration, the assistant can direct tasks or inquiries to the most suitable systems or applications within the organization, without direct human intervention.

Summarizing meetings and tracking tasks
Rob Siman explained that "Slack Bot" is also capable of recording meetings and converting them into texts, in addition to providing instant summaries that include the main points and tasks required from each participant.

It can also follow the user's activity outside the application, including the calendar, conversations, and workflow, to offer smart suggestions or prepare automatic responses and tasks, with the company emphasizing the inclusion of tools to control privacy and manage permissions.

Strategic transformation in the role of "Slack"
These updates reflect Salesforce's efforts to transform "Slack" from just an internal communication tool to a comprehensive platform for managing business and daily tasks by integrating artificial intelligence in all aspects of work.

Benioff noted that the five years since the company's acquisition of "Slack" have been an exceptional journey, with revenue growth at a rate of 2.5 times, adding that about a million companies currently rely on the platform.

It seems that "Salesforce" is betting on this transformation to enhance the position of "Slack" as a fundamental tool in modern work environments, amid increasing competition to provide smart solutions for business management.
