The incident occurred in the Meshansky district of Moscow, where an 8-year-old girl decided to get back at her mother after a verbal altercation between them, found her mother's money bag, and threw it out of the window. The bag contained $88,000.
After the bag fell into the street, some teenagers found it, took most of the money, and burned the rest, with no clear motive for this behavior. The incident drew the attention of security authorities.
The law enforcement bodies in Moscow were able to resolve the circumstances of the incident and trace the majority of the money. According to the authorities, $83,000 will be returned to its owner, while an investigation will take place regarding the remaining amount that the teenagers destroyed.
