Jamjoom Poultry in Jordan is available and prices are stable

Khaberni - The head of the Poultry and Feed Investors Association, Abdul Shakoor Jamjoom, stated on Tuesday that the poultry consumption during Ramadan reached 27 million chickens; despite this, their prices did not increase.

Jamjoom added that the decline in consumption rates after Ramadan led to no increase in poultry prices in the markets despite approximately a 15% increase in shipping fees, with the price of fresh chicken ranging between 1.75 and two dinars.

Jamjoom pointed out that poultry is plentifully available in the markets, confirming that there is no monopolization in the poultry sector because the sector depends on supply and demand, and any rise or fall in prices depends on the volume of demand from citizens.

The Assistant Secretary-General for Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture, Misbah Al-Tarawneh, affirmed that poultry prices in the local market are primarily governed by the supply and demand equation, in the context of the sector being affected by global variables, particularly regarding production costs and inputs.

Al-Tarawneh explained that Jordan is self-sufficient in poultry products, along with having a strategic stock that lasts for more than three months, assuring that the supply chains for basic inputs, such as yellow corn and soy meal, operate within their normal levels and cover the local market needs.

He mentioned that any increase in prices is directly linked to the rise in global production costs, including shipping, energy, and insurance costs due to regional and international conditions, pointing out that the ministry is working on diversifying import sources and choosing close and safe origins to reduce costs, like minimizing the distances of maritime transport.
