Khaberni - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsha, confirmed that the Jordanian government currently does not intend to resort to programmed power cuts.
Al-Kharabsha said on "Jordanian Television" on Tuesday, that at present there are no intentions or measures to cut off electricity in a programmed manner, pointing out that the government has several options within the pre-prepared emergency plans in case the crisis worsens and supply chains face any issues, all within the second and third levels of these plans.
The minister clarified that the government deals with the citizens with full transparency, having activated the emergency plans in successive stages since the beginning of the crisis, and that Jordan is currently still at the first level of these plans, as long as the supply chains are operating normally.
He added that the emergency plan includes switching to alternative fuel, as the government has stored sufficient quantities of it as a strategic stock to cover the kingdom's needs for 30 days in case of a complete natural gas cutoff.
He indicated that there are power stations ready to operate on this alternative fuel. Al-Kharabsha explained that the government has indeed begun the transition to alternative fuel, and that the available stock at electric power generation stations of this fuel remains close to the level it was at the beginning of the crisis, despite the continued consumption.
